- Trafficking in women and / or girls
Type:RecommendationSession:18th session, February 2014Status:AcceptedContents:Pay special attention to the adoption of comprehensive measures to address the aggravating problem of trafficking in children. Consider the possibility of sending an invitation to the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially in women and children.ExplanationCombating trafficking in human beings, including providing assistance to victims has been among long-term priorities of the Ministry of Interior. Recommendations given to Slovakia regarding trafficking in human beings are fully implemented at national level. The Information Centre for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings fulfils the task of a "national rapporteur" while at the same time serves as a manger of the Human Trafficking information system. The Ministry of Interior acts as an umbrella authority for the Programme of Support and Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking, which ensures comprehensive assistance to victims subject to their individual needs. As a part of combating this phenomenon, Slovakia will continue to raise awareness about trafficking in human beings, also through the campaigns. Slovakia will focus on fulfilling the tasks resulting from the National Programme of Combating Trafficking in Human Beings.ImplementationNational Report Annex 1:
Based on the requirements of application practice arising from legislative changes and from the implementation of the principles of current international directives and regulations, the new internal standard “Applying Measures of Socio-Legal Protection of Children and Social Care for Victims of Human Trafficking – Guidelines and Recommended Procedure No. 6-3/2016”, effective from 1 November 2016, was introduced to modify the internal procedure for CSLPaSP in applying measures for victims of human trafficking.
The application of measures by CSLPaSP focuses on providing social counselling, participation in programmes focused on assisting human trafficking victims and field social work. The counselling and psychology services department primarily provides psychological counselling and psychological assistance. CSLPaSP acts as a caretaker during legal proceedings. Preventive and search activities focus on risk groups and risk situations.
In working with human trafficking victims, a CSLPaSP proceeds according to §11 (3) of the Family Act, which imposes an obligation upon the facility, as part of measures to be applied, to apply or ensure the application of professional methods to assist children or adult natural persons who were victims of human trafficking.
When applying these measures, a CSLPaSP closely cooperates with the police, court, prosecution, schools, school facilities, municipalities, higher territorial units, accredited entities, healthcare institutions, and other legal and natural persons engaged in this field.
Care for minors who are human trafficking victims is provided by the Children’s Home in Topoľčany, where six professional members of staff have been trained in cooperation with the MI SR to work with human trafficking victims. In line with the tasks of the National Programme for Combating Human Trafficking, activities for children were focused primarily on information and promotion campaigns, education and preventive activities for groups at risk of human trafficking, particularly children and young adults placed in youth detention centres and unaccompanied minors.
The Information Centre for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Crime Prevention plays the role of a national reporting body or that of a similar mechanism established in accordance with Article 19 of Directive 2011/36/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 April 2012 on Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, which replaces Council Decision 2002/629/JHA.
The recommendation has been implemented.

Type:RecommendationSession:5th session, May 2009Status:AcceptedContents:Make efforts to correct inequalities between men and women in the area of remuneration, especially through the introduction of effective measures as part of the National Strategy 2009-2013 for sex parity, which is being prepared.ImplementationNational Report:
Para 18) With respect to the implementation of the recommendation to narrow and close wage gap and enact equal pay for equal work, Slovakia took necessary legislative steps in this regard. In 2007, an important provision that legislatively enacted a wage for equal work; and for work of equal value for men and women was added to the Labour Code. Despite existing legislation significant differences in remuneration for men and women, however, persist. Inequalities gradually decrease; the difference currently represents approximately 20%. In other words, the average wage of women represents less than 80% of the average wage of men.
Para 19) Several measures are currently carried out and envisaged respectively to step up efforts in equal remuneration of men and women, including exchange of good practice in the EU, implementation of gender audits at least in public administration, preparation of trainings and certification of gender audits in cooperation with the ILO. The day of equal remuneration for men and women (5 April) was introduced as a mean for public awareness. -

Type:RecommendationSession:18th session, February 2014Status:AcceptedContents:Strengthen measures on combating discrimination against women ...ExplanationSlovakia will further implement measures to eliminate differences in remuneration between men and women, inter alia by using the concept of social responsibility and exchange of good practises. Methodology on equality in remuneration and gender audits in the workplace are under preparation.ImplementationNational Report Annex 1:
The Slovak Republic has stepped up its fight against discrimination by adopting the National Strategy for Gender Equality, the Action Plan for Gender Equality for the 2014-2020 period and the Action Plan for the Prevention and Elimination of Violence against Women until 2019.

UN Compilation:
Para 35) CEDAW noted with concern that there was no legal provision regulating de facto unions, which might deprive women of protection and redress in cases of separation from their partner. The Committee noted that the law on property distribution upon divorce did not adequately address gender-based economic disparities between spouses resulting from traditional work and family life patterns.
Para 47) CEDAW noted with concern that discriminatory stereotypes regarding the roles and responsibilities of women and men in society and family were deeply rooted in Slovakia, and that there had been campaigns by non-State actors advocating for traditional family values, overemphasizing the roles of women as mothers and caretakers, and criticizing gender equality as “gender ideology”.
Stakeholder Summary:
Para 29) The SNCHR reported that the activities of international and local businesses operating in Slovakia had certain negative impacts on the enjoyment of human rights, including discrimination of vulnerable groups (e.g. women, …)
Para 48) The SNCHR stated that discriminatory stereotypes concerning social and family roles of women and men were deeply rooted in Slovakia. Women continued to bear a disproportionate share of family and household responsibilities. The SNCHR explained that, in terms of gender stereotyping, a fundamental problem laid on misinterpretation of the term “gender equality”. Some groups of society considered gender equality as a threat to traditionalism.
Para 49) JS1 reported that gender inequality remained evident in many areas of private and public life.
